Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to join or buy equipment? How much does it cost?
A: Nope! Entry is just £3 per session on Wednesday, £2 on Friday, turn up whenever you want. We provide sticks and pucks, and skates can be hired from the rink for an extra £1.

Q: But I can't skate or play hockey!
A: No matter, this is a good way to practice both (and the stick helps you balance)! Being able to stand up on skates will obviously help, but you can pick up everything you need very quickly, and you don't need to be a pro to have fun.

Q: When is it?
A: Alternatives runs every week: Wednesday 11:30pm-1:15am and Friday 11:40-1:00am. We'll send lots of awesome emails to remind you, too!

Q: Tell me more!
A: That's not a question. Each session consists of lots of 3-minute games with a team of 6/7 players you form on arrival (or in advance). We often play "half ice": two games across the ice at once, making it easier for those who can't skate very well, and giving you more time to play. Oh, and it's great fun!

Q: Oxford has an ice rink? Where?
A: Here's a nice map:

Q: What if I'm not a beginner?
A: Intermediate players are welcome too, but for a serious game check out the University's ice hockey teams:
 - Oxford Blues (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~ouihc/)
 - Oxford Women's Blues (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~ouwihc/)
 - Oxford Vikings (http://www.ouihc.org/home/oxford-university-vikings/)

Q: Can I see your Safety Documents?
